GISELA ROMERO



Born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1960.


Gisela Romero is a Visual Artist who combines images and words.
Her investigation is based on the territory of dualities and the experimentation of extremes, her work is centered in the interrelation of opposites, in the necessary tension between contraries.

Romero Graduated as Graphic Designer at the Neumann Foundation, Caracas in 1982. She completes the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Illustration major) at the California College of Arts, California in 1985 and the Master of Fine Arts degree (Printmaking major) at Pratt Institute, New York in 1992.
Between 1979 and 1982 she studied Literature at the Universidad Central de Venezuela.

Romero made his first solo show in 1992 after receiving the degree in Master of Fine Arts at Pratt Institute, New York. Since then she dedicated her career to Visual Arts, participating in individual and collective art projects in Venezuela and abroad. Since 1985 has been teaching Illustration, Printmaking and Creative Writing to adults and children in different cultural institutions in Venezuela.

Romero has participated in biennials and exhibitions in name of his country and her work is represented in different private collection and public Institutions (Ateneo de Valencia, Valencia - Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Maracay Mario Abreu, Maracay - Galería de Arte Nacional, Caracas - Museo de la Estampa y el Diseño Carlos Cruz – Diez, among others).

Romero has participated in Artists Residencies in Spain, Italy and the United States as a Visiting Artist. Since 1994 is member of the Associated Graphic Artists of Venezuela, TAGA.

Gisela Romero resides and works in Caracas and Playa Pintada, Miranda State, Venezuela.
