Gabriela Sanchez Vegas

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1973, from a very young age, Gabriela Sanchez-Vegas has been fascinated and drawn into the world of visual arts and all that relates to creativeness. She studied chemical engineering at the Metropolitan University of Caracas, but soon opted for the more glamorous world of fashion. It wasn’t until the new millennium began, that Gabriela Sanchez-Vegas finally realized her true calling. In the year 2006 she traveled to San Francisco to study.

On December 9th, 2006, she presented her first group exhibition, “The Birth”, at the Independent Visual Art Gallery, in the Wyndwood Art District in Miami, Florida. “The Birth” Collection was created using this new concrete technique, not yet found in many art galleries. It revolves around concepts related to the origins of the human being, birth, rebirth, unions and separations. Sanchez Vegas represented these concepts through the image of an egg, an element that contains, in itself, a beginning and fragility. The concrete is a noble material that represents the steps taken by a human being: leaving behind traces. In its polish it represents a mirror its memory is perpetual.

On April 14th, 2007, she made her debut presenting her first solo exhibition: “ The Universe”, also at the Wyndwood Art District. In this collection, she outlines every human being and their existence as a universe of their own. Realizing that each creature, each soul, is a universe of its own, and that throughout their lives, they will experience absolute freedom and deepened darkness, learning and growing with each encounter. Without these two elements, one cannot say life has been fully experienced.
In Gabriela Sanchez-Vegas two exhibits, she has successfully been able to incorporate not only a new foundation in visual arts, but also a new complex technique, incorporating various elements with which she achieved an interaction between her pieces and people, turning her art into daily functional and absolutely breathtaking sculptures: tables, benches, sinks, etc., where the user is able to envision something new and different every time the piece is looked at and used. Gabriela Sanchez-Vegas has been able to combine engineering, design, art and concrete in the process of conceiving her artwork, which can easily be placed among the most innovative creations of these times.
Sanchez-Vegas currently resides and creates in Miami, FL.
